South Ainsty Archaeological Society is up and running again after a two-year hiatus due to Covid.
We are really looking forward to welcoming back old friends and hopefully making some new ones as we have some exciting lectures planned and we’re hoping to organise a couple of field trips and fieldwork later in the year. We start with our AGM on Tuesday 12 April at 19.30 in Acaster Malbis Memorial Hall.
We are very excited to be launching our brand-new website at the AGM. The website not only has information about SAAS events and projects, such as the Knights Templar excavations and the Wartime in the South Ainsty exhibition, but also includes the Ainsty Archive. Many of you will remember that the Ainsty Voices project, run by the late Marjorie Harrison, collected hundreds of old photos, some of which were used in the book. Now we can show all the images collected, together with those from the Acaster Malbis and Copmanthorpe history book projects.
The Archive is not complete – we can continue adding pictures as we receive them. We’ll also be looking to you to help us add details to the photos.
